My Rural Life - Raising God's Critter's

Collapse

Untitled Document

Hi folks.

I am a country woman at heart. I live in rural Idaho with my family and I love it. Our town is small - 1,500 people or so. The lines at the store are short. We have one red light and deer like to wander around town. I raise chickens for farm fresh eggs, and sheep for meat. It is an adventure and I will be writing about it on this page.

I want to share my stories to encourage those of you out there who may be interested in this lifesyle.

It is not easy. It takes a lot of hard work but it is worth it.

In Christ - Donna

August..for me..the beginning of my favorite time of year!

It is August again. I love August.

I met Nathan 25 years ago at a little Assembly of GOD church in Sisters Oregon. Trinity Christian Center.

What I have learned in 25 years of marriage.

I think that many people think long term marriage is about being lucky enough to find your soul mate. But that is a fallacy, there is no such thing as a soul mate.

All people are imperfect. And when you put two imperfect people together, there are going to be struggles.

    Choosing With Care

    Lessons from a Shepherdess

I am sitting here, on this rainy afternoon, watching my sheep through the window. I often watch my sheep. Watching them brings me peace in a world that has little peace to offer.

As I have watched them over the years I have come to understand why JESUS compares us to sheep. Being the shepherd is an eye opening experience. Sheep can be quite dumb....or surprisingly smart.

Even the sheep that are somewhat afraid of me

    Intimidated by Tamales

    Making Tamales.

When I married Nathan I really did not know how to cook. The only rice I had ever made was minute rice. I had never peeled a clove of garlic.I made a lot of mistakes that first year. I overcooked, I under-cooked, sometimes I even destroyed food.

But I wanted to cook well, so I persevered. I got cook books and read them in bed at night. Sometimes the ingredients were just too expensive for us. So I got creative. In those days there were very...
